  • About the Movie

BODY GAMES weaves a sensual tapestry of combat games from both sides of the Atlantic, exploring their deep cultural and historical connections. The narrative is driven by Mestre Cobra Mansa's quest to understand the roots of his art form, Capoeira, within the broader context of his Afro-Brazilian heritage.

The journey begins in Rio de Janeiro, where, as a 12-year-old street child, Cobra found survival, self-esteem, and belonging through the practice of Capoeira. This martial art not only helped him navigate the harsh realities of his youth but also led him to become a pivotal figure in Brazil's black movement, allowing him to discover and embrace his identity as an Afro-Brazilian.

A powerful Brazilian myth links Capoeira to an ancient Angolan game called Engolo. Driven by this myth, Cobra embarks on a transformative exchange between Capoeira and Engolo, traveling to the dusty villages of Southern Angola. Through this exchange, he begins to unravel the affinities and distinctions between the combat games practiced on both sides of the Atlantic.
