Biography:

In 2007, Mestre Aranha founded the Tribo de Angola Group at
Forte do Barbalho, where his preservation work is fundamental in many ways. Teaching capoeira to young people and teenagers from nearby communities is a powerful alternative to the lure of crime and drugs, which are unfortunately so common in everyday life in these outlying communities. In addition, the craft of instrument making taught by the master is a skill that can generate income, as well as offering young people the opportunity to learn from his knowledge. Mestre Aranha has been a member of the Capoeira Angola Sports Center – Academia do Mestre João Pequeno de Pastinha (CECA – AJPP) in Forte Santo Antônio since 1982, and has been teaching regular capoeira angola classes there since 1996.
