Biography:
Mestre Camaleão is a renowned capoeirista, originally from Salvador de Bahia, who has made a name for himself both in Brazil and internationally for his dedication to capoeira angola. His career began in Salvador, but it was in Rio de Janeiro that he trained as a capoeira master. With over 30 years' experience teaching capoeira, Mestre Camaleão has developed a unique pedagogical approach, using capoeira as a tool for socio-educational projects, both in marginalized areas and in academic institutions.
He settled in Marseille in 2002, where he continues this work of transmitting capoeira angola through the development of the Filhos de Angola capoeira school, as well as his participation in various capoeira events internationally.
His school Filhos de Angola (different from Mestre Laercio's Grupo de Capoeira Filhos de Angola) was born in Brazil, founded in Rio de Janeiro by Mestre Camaleão. The school later arrived in France, in Marseille in 2002, and then expanded to other regions of France (Orléans, Assier, La Réunion, French Brittany) and the world (Mexico, Japan and Portugal).
The name "Filhos de Angola" is an inheritance from Mestre Mucungê, with whom Mestre Camaleão shared years of life. In fact, Mestre Mucungê founded the capoeira group "Filhos de Angola" with Mestre Onça Preta in the 1960s. It was in 1994 that Mestre Camaleão decided to create a capoeira school with his students, named after Mestre Mucungê's group.
