Biography:

Mestre Salário Mínimo  (Dielson Nascimento de Oliveira) is a veteran capoeirista from Bahia and one of the students who learned directly from Mestre Bimba. With more than four decades dedicated to Capoeira Regional, he represents the older generation that trained during a time when capoeira was less formal and still strongly linked to street rodas and community culture.

Throughout his life, he became known for his open personality and his large family. Beyond the stories, he has always emphasized the cultural value of capoeira and its evolution. As he often says, “Capoeira antigamente se jogava na senzala, e hoje está em academias, colégios e faculdades.” For him, the worldwide growth of capoeira is positive, as long as the mestres of today receive proper respect and recognition.

Mestre Salário Mínimo continues to be remembered as a traditional figure of Regional—dedicated, outspoken, and committed to seeing capoeira valued for the important cultural heritage that it is.
