Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he began his journey in Capoeira Angola in 1970 and quickly rose to prominence as one of the pioneers of the Grupo de Capoeira Angola Pelourinho (GCAP). His influence expanded further when he founded the N’GOLO Angola group in Minas Gerais in 1990, which later became affiliated with the International Capoeira Angola Foundation (ICAF).

Under Mestre Jurandir’s leadership, ICAF has grown into the largest Capoeira Angola organization worldwide, fostering chapters across the globe, including in the US, Brazil, Mozambique, and beyond. In 1995, alongside Mestre Cobra Mansa and Mestre Valmir Damasceno, he co-founded FICA (Fundaçao Internacional de Capoeira de Angola) to preserve and research Capoeira Angola's rich heritage. This organization plays a vital role in hosting conferences, workshops, and public demonstrations to raise awareness of Afro-Brazilian culture and the historical significance of Capoeira.
