Biography:

Mestre Jorge Satélite, born Jorge Sátiro da Conceição on April 23, 1947, in Mar Grande, Vera Cruz, Bahia, is a respected Capoeira Angola mestre, educator, and cultural leader, recognized for his lifelong dedication to preserving the traditional values and teachings of Capoeira in Bahia.

He began his Capoeira journey in 1965 in his hometown under the guidance of Mestre Paulo dos Anjos, a direct disciple of Mestre Canjiquinha and Mestre Aberrê. Through this lineage, Jorge Satélite inherited a deep connection to the roots of Capoeira Angola — one that emphasizes mandinga, rhythm, and respect for its Afro-Brazilian ancestry. His commitment and skill earned him the title of Mestre in 1992, in Salvador, Bahia.

In 1978, he began teaching Capoeira, combining discipline and tradition in his approach. Though he worked professionally as a plumber, Capoeira remained the heart of his life and mission. His teaching stressed not only the technical and musical aspects of the art, but also its social role in shaping character, respect, and cultural awareness.

The Associação Cultural de Capoeira Clips Academia, originally founded in 1965 on Itaparica Island by Mestre Paulo dos Anjos, moved to Salvador in 1975, where it established its headquarters in the Castelo Branco neighborhood. Under Mestre Jorge Satélite’s leadership, the group expanded across Bahia and Sergipe, training thousands of students over the decades. Today, Clips Academia operates in several cities, including Amargosa, Santa Brígida, Canudos, Poço Verde, and Carira, maintaining a strong commitment to the traditional forms and philosophy of Capoeira Angola.

Mestre Jorge Satélite was also the first Capoeira teacher of Mestre Renê Bittencourt, founder of ACANNE (Associação de Capoeira Angola Navio Negreiro). He introduced Renê to Mestre Paulo dos Anjos, reinforcing the continuity of their lineage. Through social and educational programs such as Segundo Tempo, Mais Educação, and Projeto Castelo do Esporte, Mestre Jorge used Capoeira as a transformative tool in schools and communities.

In 2010, he was honored with the Prêmio Viva Meu Mestre, a state-level recognition of his cultural and educational contributions to Capoeira in Bahia. In 2024, he appeared in the documentary “Dessa arte eu sei um pouco”, which celebrates the life and teachings of his master, Mestre Paulo dos Anjos, alongside other key disciples.

Mestre Jorge Satélite continues to uphold the legacy of Mestre Paulo dos Anjos, Mestre Canjiquinha, and Mestre Aberrê, embodying the essence of Capoeira as art, history, and resistance. His life’s work represents an unbroken thread connecting generations through rhythm, discipline, and cultural identity.
