Professor Doutor

Biography:

Frikke van Eck, apelido Doutor, came into contact with capoeira for the first time in 1996 by means of a course given by Flores Brancas, a contemporary capoeirista who came from the Senzala style. Being fond of music, dance and martial arts, for Frikke it seemed that capoeira was exactly what he was looking for without even knowing it. Especially the lower and flowing movements attracted him. When Flores stopped teaching after 2 years, Frikke more or less stopped training for a number of years until 2003 when he met Robertino, a street capoeirsta who was teaching children in the north of Amsterdam. He assists him for 2 years, learning from Robertino on the way. In 2005 Frikke started to train for one year with m Abelha, aluno of m João Pequeno, who was living in the Netherlands for a short time. After another few years of not being able to train, in 2009 Frikke picked up capoeira with prof Totti Angola, who learned with m João Grande in New York. With Totti Frikke trained for about 4,5 years until knee problems forced him to stop. Totti left for Brazil and later Portugal. CM Ilma and CM Julianto then founded Grupo de Capoeira Angola Holanda (2014). After multiple knee surgeries Frikke could join GCAH again in 2016, where he started to teach from 2018. GCAH affiliated with m Laercio in 2020 and Frikke was given the title of Professor.

In 2025 Frikke joined the CapoeiraHub team.
